Fake news India became a central concern as India’s PIB stepped up its efforts to combat false information propagated via social media after Operation Sindoor. They disproved untrue statements meant to frighten the public, such as edited films and bogus information.
Government fact-checking teams went into high alert in the aftermath ofOperation Sindoor, India’s cross-border counterstrike in response to the Pahalgam terror incident, to expose and refute false material on social media and in the mainstream media and correct the record.
Their workload increased as a result of the deceptive reports about diplomatic escalations, manipulated films purporting to depict missile launches, and unconfirmed photos of army movements flooding social media channels.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) claimed in a statement that “a flurry of coordinated disinformation has been carried out by certain social media handles in general and mainstream media in particular in Pakistan with the sole objective of instilling fear among the Indian masses.” The Press Information Bureau has spent the previous two weeks vigorously dispelling this psychological warfare. Additionally, false information has been spreading among Indian media and social media users. The PIB’s fact-check squad corrected the record and disproved false information, falsehoods, and misinformation.
A video of a drone strike in Jalandhar was extensively shared to incite panic, according to PIB. It turned out to be an irrelevant farm fire video, according to the PIB.
One video that went viral on the internet stated that the Pakistani army had damaged an Indian garrison. Numerous phony and unconfirmed tales spread and magnified this. Since there was no such unit in the Indian Army, PIB determined that the allegation was entirely untrue and verified that it was a hoax.
According to PIB, the film was a part of a concerted propaganda operation and was intended to mislead the public.
Dispelling myths
On social media, an outdated video purporting that Pakistan had attacked India with missiles was circulated. PIB discovered after fact-checking the footage that it was, in fact, of an incident that happened in Beirut in 2020.

There was also widespread dissemination of information of a terrorist attack on an army unit in Rajouri, Jammu & Kashmir.
