Two days after the Pahalgam massacre, in which terrorists killed 26 people, authorities on Thursday took down security barricades outside the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi. Protesters yelling “Pakistan Murdabad” slogans erupted outside the Pakistani Embassy shortly after the barricades were taken down.

Protests Outside Pakistan High Commission Intensify as India Cuts Diplomatic Ties After Pahalgam Incident

A day after India cut diplomatic ties with Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam incident, Delhi Police took down the barricades outside the Pakistan High Commission. Following a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting on Wednesday, it was declared that, beginning on May 1, the combined strength of the Indian and Pakistani high commissions would be further reduced from 55 to 30.

Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and other senior officials attended the meeting, which was presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the wake of the protests outside Pakistan High Commission, India also announced the cancellation of the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistani nationals. Any Pakistani citizen currently in India under this scheme has been asked to leave the country within 48 hours.

26 persons, including a foreigner, were killed when terrorists opened fire on visitors in the Baisaran Valley in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday, April 22.
