Operation Sankalp began on April 21 as a decisive counter-insurgency initiative along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border.
In a significant anti-Naxal operation taking place in the Karegutta hills in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, security forces killed twenty-two Maoists on Wednesday, according to a top police officer.
Operation Sankalp, a “decisive counter-insurgency initiative” on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border, has been in effect since April 21. According to the officer, the most recent incident brings the total number of accused Maoists killed in the operation to 26. Three Maoists were slain on April 24 and one on May 5, making a total of 26 people murdered thus far.
Operation Sankalp involves about 28,000 men from various formations, including the Central Reserve Police Force and its special CoBRA unit, the District Reserve Guard, the Bastar Fighters, the Special Task Force, and all State Police forces. The campaign was started in an area that is believed to be the hiding place of high-ranking Maoist officials and is protected by Battalion Number 1, the People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army’s (PLGA) most powerful military unit.
The PLGA is the Maoist Communist Party of India’s armed wing. According to police sources, there have been over 35 confrontations between the Maoists and the police in the last 18 days.
In addition to 400 improvised explosive devices, or IEDs, and two tons of explosive materials, some 40 firearms were found during the specified time frame, according to police sources. According to an official, the total weight of recoveries, which includes food grains, other ration supplies, uniforms, and medications, is six tons.

According to the spokesman, “the operation has so far destroyed hundreds of Naxal hideouts and bunkers.”
As of the most recent incident, 168 Naxalites had been shot dead in various clashes in Chhattisgarh this year. In the Bastar division, which included seven districts, including Bijapur, 151 of them were removed.
Relatedly, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai hosted a Home Department review meeting in his office on Wednesday. According to a government statement issued in the evening, Mr. Sai was briefed by authorities on the security forces’ ongoing battle against the Naxalites on Karregutta hill in the Bijapur district and they also talked about future plans.
