Mark Carney’s Dance Goes Viral as Liberals Secure 4th Term, Fall Just Short of Majority
Ottawa, Canada: The Liberals, led by Prime Minister Mark Carney, made a spectacular electoral comeback that was generally interpreted as a jab at US President Donald Trump. When Carney’s party won a fourth consecutive term in Canada’s federal election, he was spotted celebrating with his dance moves. But after the votes were counted, the Liberals were only three seats short of a majority, meaning they will need to look to a smaller party for support in order to pass legislation.
Carney can be seen dancing and rapping with the Canadian rap-rock group Down With Webster (DWW) while sporting their sweatshirt.
According to reports, PM Carney has long enjoyed DWW, particularly the song “Time to Win.” The song has also been played at numerous prime minister of Canada rallies.
Carney met with Trump after he won the election, and according to the Canadian prime minister’s office, the two leaders “agreed on the importance of Canada and the United States working together — as independent, sovereign nations.”
Notably, Pierre Poilievre, the populist Conservative leader and Carney’s opponent, was leading until Trump attacked Canada with threats of annexation as the 51st state and a trade war.
Trump’s antics may have cost Poilievre dearly because he was voted out of the 20-year-old seat in Parliament and lost his bid for prime minister on Monday.
The firebrand Poilievre, who only months ago seemed certain to be Canada’s next prime minister and lead the Conservatives back into power for the first time in ten years, saw a sharp drop in fortunes that culminated in that.
