Lightning Strikes in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh have led to a tragic loss of life, with nearly 50 people killed in the past 24 hours. The deadly weather, which also included intense hailstorms, has wreaked havoc across rural areas, damaging homes, crops, and infrastructure.

According to news agency PTI, lightning strikes and rain-related incidents in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh on Thursday claimed the lives of at least 47 persons.
At least 25 persons were killed in Bihar by hailstorms and lightning strikes in multiple districts.
The Bihar chief minister’s office (CMO) released a statement stating that 18 people had died in Nalanda, two in Siwan, and one each in Katihar, Darbhanga, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, and Jehanabad.
On Wednesday, 13 people had died in lightning strikes in four districts of Bihar.
“In response to the devastating lightning strikes in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar condoled the deaths and announced an ex gratia of ₹4 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased.”
But in a post on X, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav asserted that more than 50 persons had perished in rain-related accidents in the state.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of over 50 lives due to storm-related incidents, including heavy rain, lightning strikes in Bihar, tree falls, and wall collapses. I extend my heartfelt condolences. May God give strength to the bereaved families to endure this hour of grief,” Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar wrote in Hindi.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange alert’ (be prepared) for several districts in response to recent lightning strikes in Bihar and ongoing extreme weather. Affected areas include Darbhanga, East Champaran, Gopalganj, West Champaran, Kishanganj, Araria, Supaul, Gaya, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Nalanda, Nawada, and Patna. The IMD has also forecast heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday across these districts, according to PTI.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister, has directed officials to provide the families of the deceased the ₹4 lakh in allowable relief money right now.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved families affected by the Lightning Strikes in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, he directed officials to ensure proper treatment for the injured and provide all permissible assistance to those impacted by the tragic incidents.
In order to take further action in this respect, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh further instructed officials to carry out a survey, evaluate the crop loss, and submit the results to the government.
