Harsha Bhogle Simon Doull IPL 2025: KKR Captain’s Complaint Fuels Eden Gardens Curator Controversy

Following KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane’s complaint about the absence of spin-friendly wickets at their home ground—with veteran off-spinner Sunil Narine and mystery leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy being important members of their bowling unit—Eden Gardens curator Sujan Mukherjee came under fire.

Harsha Bhogle Simon Doull IPL 2025 remarks gained attention after the issue first came to light following Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s clinical seven-wicket victory over the home team in the season opener on 22 March. In that match, Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood thrived on a pitch that offered good seam movement, while KKR’s Varun Chakravarthy conceded 43 runs, sparking criticism and commentary that led to the current controversy.

However, Mukherjee had defended his choice to create a “sporting track” rather than a turning wicket so that hitters, pacers, and spinners would have something to work with. He also “felt bad” about the criticism he received from the KKR camp.

Harsha Bhogle Simon Doull IPL 2025 controversy escalated after Doull’s strong remarks during a recent appearance on Cricbuzz. “If he’s (the curator) not taking heed of what the home team wants… I mean, they are paying the stadium fees, they are paying for what’s going on in the IPL but if he’s still not paying heed of what the home team wants, then just move the franchise away to somewhere else. His job is not to pass an opinion on the game. That’s not what he’s paid for,” Doull stated, fueling backlash from local officials.

“They should get the tracks they believe are appropriate for their bowlers if they are playing at home.” Bhogle continued, “I saw something (about) what the KKR curator has said.”

In the remaining games of the 18th IPL season, Eden Gardens will host six more games, including the match versus GT, Qualifier 2, and the championship game.
