Delhi Airport Pauses Runway Upgrade After Flight With 404 Passengers Makes Emergency Landing

Meanwhile, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi, India’s busiest aviation hub, is set to temporarily reopen Runway 10/28 in the first week of May following widespread flight disruptions caused by ongoing maintenance work. The move comes after nearly 900 flights were affected in a single day, including the Flight With 404 Passengers that made an emergency landing—prompting airport authorities to take swift corrective measures to ease air traffic congestion.

  • In order to enhance low-visibility operations, particularly in preparation for the winter fog season, the runway—which has been undergoing a crucial Instrument Landing System (ILS) upgrade—was closed for maintenance. Major delays and operational difficulties across terminals resulted from the subsequent decline in arrival capacity, which went from 45 flights per hour to about 31–32.

The incident involving the Flight With 404 Passengers has highlighted the urgent need for efficient infrastructure management and rapid response systems at major airports like Delhi’s IGI. As authorities work to restore normal operations and reopen critical runways, passenger safety and operational readiness remain top priorities in India’s ever-growing aviation sector.
