A draft law to control fees in both government and private schools has been adopted by the Delhi Cabinet. The decision was taken in response to parents’ growing annoyance with the sharp increases in school fees in the nation’s capital. The measure would become legislation and impose rules on the cost of private and public schools if it is introduced and approved by the Delhi Assembly.
There is currently no law in Delhi that governs how private schools set or raise their tuition.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presided over the meeting where the law was adopted. The law suggests establishing a three-tiered council to oversee price increases, according to Delhi’s education minister Ashish Sood.

The Delhi education department had previously received complaints on the practice of fake schooling at a number of unaided private colleges and had sent show-cause orders to eleven private schools over price rises. About 20 such schools have been discovered, according to officials, and they will face separate sanctions.
Following a complaint to the chief minister over a private school in Model Town that was reportedly raising tuition by a significant amount and dismissing pupils for failing to pay the appropriate amount, this development occurred.
Gupta went on to say that her government is dedicated to openness and safeguarding children’s rights in education. Additionally, according to Gupta, these schools have been requested to reply; if they don’t, harsh measures will be taken against them. Gupta had argued that “no school has the right to remove students unfairly or harass parents over fees.”
