Colonel Sofiya Qureshi the Colonel’s father, described the moving event shortly after the rally, remembering how PM Modi recognized his family in the crowd.
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s huge roadshow in Vadodara, Gujarat, on Monday morning, the family of Indian Army soldier Colonel Sofiya Qureshi showered him with flower petals in a touching gesture.
Colonel Qureshi’s family was spotted thanking him with flowers and waves as the Prime Minister’s convoy went through the city.
Taj Mohammed Qureshi, the Colonel’s father, described the moving event shortly after the rally, remembering how PM Modi recognized his family in the crowd.
“PM Modi ne humey sir liya aur fir pranaam kiya.” Humne bhi unhe sammaan se pranaam kiya (PM Modi folded his hands in greeting after recognizing us). He was impressed by the gesture and remarked, “We also returned the gesture with respect.”
Halima Qureshi, her mother, also voiced her unwavering support for the prime minister.
We gave him flowers as a greeting. It’s great to see everyone uniting in his greeting. He deserves this respect since he is our nation’s prime minister,” she remarked.
She said, “Sofiya is not only our daughter but the daughter of the nation,” in reference to her daughter. Her actions are admirable, and we ought to continue her legacy.
Colonel Sofiya’s twin sister, Shyna Sunsara, joined her parents in describing an emotional encounter with Prime Minister Modi, stating, “When he passed by, he bowed down, and we bowed back.” It was a moment to remember. He seemed to be telling everyone that we are all on the same page and that nobody should be scared.
“Meeting PM Modi felt inspiring,” she continued, praising the Prime Minister’s dedication to women’s emancipation. Many people, like me, are inspired by Sofia’s dedication to the country. She has grown to be the nation’s sister.
Colonel Sofiya’s brother, Sanjay Qureshi, was ecstatic as he talked about his sentiments of seeing PM Modi in person for the first time.

It was an amazing moment. He remarked, “He gave us a warm greeting with his gestures.” Furthermore, he conveyed his appreciation to the Indian government and military for allowing his sister to serve the country. He proudly remarked, “A woman standing up for all the women who suffered… what could be better than that?” in appreciation of his sister and her vital contribution to Operation Sindoor’s success.
This May, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi gained notoriety as co-chair of the official media briefings on Operation Sindoor, which was India’s May 7 retaliatory attacks against terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the April 22 terror assault in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives.
Colonel Qureshi, who was born in Vadodara in 1981, comes from a rich military family. Her father took part in the India-Pakistan conflict in 1971, and her grandpa was in the Indian Army.
On Monday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on his first journey to his home state of Gujarat since the successful conclusion of Operation Sindoor, which would last for two days.
