BJP mocks Mamata Banerjee over her recent claim suggesting a reimagining of South Asia’s geography, calling it a figment of “Didi’s imagination.” The remark quickly drew ridicule from BJP leaders and became a trending topic online.

New Delhi:
BJP mocks Mamata Banerjee after the Chief Minister wrongly claimed that West Bengal shares a border with Sri Lanka, an island nation. Taking a sharp swipe at the Trinamool Congress chief, Bengal BJP president and Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar said, “Didi’s imagination has redrawn South Asia.” The BJP leader added that in Mamata’s Bengal, “facts are optional, logic is missing, and incompetence is a qualification.”
BJP Mocks Mamata Banerjee Over 1 Bizarre Border Claim Linking Bengal to Sri Lanka
Following violence in Murshidabad during demonstrations against the Waqf Amendment Act, Ms. Banerjee spoke to a group of Imams and accused them of a “sinister plan” to incite riots in Bengal. Bengal is a delicate border state, she emphasized, adding, “Bengal is the border of Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka.” In actuality, the state borders Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Being an island nation, Sri Lanka is more than 2,300 kilometers away and cannot share borders with Bengal.
BJP mocks Mamata Banerjee over her geographical gaffe, with State BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar posting on X, “According to geography expert & Failed West Bengal CM @MamataOfficial, the state now shares a border with Sri Lanka! Move over, maps – Didi’s imagination has redrawn South Asia!”
BJP mocks Mamata Banerjee yet again, as State BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar questioned her basic knowledge of geography. “When the Chief Minister herself can’t tell where her state ends and an island nation begins, is it any wonder qualified teachers are jobless while scams thrive?” he said, referencing the 25,000 teacher appointments cancelled due to recruitment corruption. “In Mamata’s Bengal, facts are optional, logic is missing, and incompetence is a qualification,” he added.
Ms. Banerjee declared that she would not permit anyone to incite unrest within the borders of Bengal. She asked Muslim leaders in Delhi to voice their disapproval of the recently passed Waqf law.

In response to the criticism, Mamata Banerjee referred to news reports suggesting that Bangladeshi infiltrators were involved in the recent violence in Bengal, which claimed three lives and caused massive property damage. “If that is the case, it is the Centre’s responsibility. BSF guards the border,” she said, even as BJP mocks Mamata Banerjee for deflecting blame and raising questions over national security.
