India commemorated the time in 1960 when the vast Bombay state was split along linguistic lines on Thursday, marking the 65th anniversary of the creation of the states of Maharashtra and Gujarat. National authorities praised the cultural legacies and economic achievements of the two western states that have shaped contemporary India’s identity, and the day, known locally as Maharashtra Day and Gujarat Gaurav Divas, was commemorated with official accolades and public pride.
President Droupadi Murmu wished the citizens of both states a happy occasion on social media. “I would want to send my warmest regards to all of my compatriots on the foundation day of Gujarat state, particularly my Gujarati brothers and sisters who reside in India and elsewhere. The President posted on X (previously Twitter) that “this land of sons like Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, who gave the message of peace and non-violence to the world, and Iron Man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who united India, has always shown the way to humanity.”
I have no doubt that Gujarat will establish new benchmarks for development and play a big role in establishing India as a global force,” she continued.
The President wished the people of Maharashtra well in another post. She expressed optimism that the state will continue to lead with social change and patriotism, recalling the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and notable figures like BR Ambedkar, Jyotiba Phule, and Savitribai Phule.
Jagdeep Dhankhar, the vice president, also echoed her views. Gujarat is a place of “leadership, resilience, and innovation,” he extolled. Gujarat, the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, continues to inspire, according to the vice president, with its history of creativity, tenacity, and leadership.
